After a challenging winter, clerk of the course Simon Claisse is relieved that the rain has relented and it's all systems go for this year's Cheltenham Festival.
The track lost both its January meetings due to waterlogged ground, for the first time since 1996 – but conditions have improved significantly in recent weeks.
Claisse suggests the ground on the opening day of the flagship meeting will be primarily good to soft. "The old course which is the one we use on Tuesday, Wednesday and cross country are currently good to soft, soft in places.
And the new course too, Thursday, Friday – good to soft, soft in places," he said. "It's sort of where we would like to be with 13 days to go before we start racing." Claisse said the weather forecast
