Middlesbrough have aimed a not-so-subtle dig at Celtic after pipping them to the signing of Riley McGree. The Aussie midfielder was all set to join Ange Postecoglou 's side before a late offer from Boro turned his head.

Celtic are understood to have bailed out of a bidding war with the EFL Championship club after initially having a £2million offer accepted for the FC Charlotte star.

But Boro boss Chris Wilder was determined to land the 23-year-old and the Yorkshire outfit tabled a package worth up to £5m.That, plus a hefty wage packet, was enough to turn McGree's head south and he signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the Riverside Stadium.Boro have been showing off their new acquisition on social media and seemingly couldn't resist rubbing it in.They posted a picture of McGree in the club's dark green away shirt with the caption: "We've gone for the away kit celebration shot this time..."Some people prefer red to green, but hey ho..."Postecoglou shrugged off McGree going elsewhere at his Thursday press conference, insisting he won't try and talk any player into signing for Celtic.“Nothing too exciting,” he replied when asked why the deal didn’t happen. "He’s a player I know well and it came across my path he may be available.“I had a discussion with him and then he obviously decided he wanted to take an opportunity elsewhere, which is fine.“It wasn’t really anything too drastic for us.“It was just a discussion with a player I know well and for me it was an interesting proposition.“But it didn’t work out, which is fine.

Strictly's Giovanni and Rose's silent performance reaction sparks fury during tour
BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing have taken to social media to criticise the show’s live tour after some audience members behaved inappropriately during a routine.Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s award winning performance to Symphony by Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson features a section in which the music is turned down completely, allowing the audience to understand how life can feel when someone is hard of hearing.EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis was born deaf and wanted to do something special for their routine during Couple’s Choice week.Their touching moment went on to win Heat Magazine’s TV Moment Of The Year 2021 and earned the couple one point off a perfect score.Shirley Ballas described the dance as ‘absolutely beautiful’ while fellow judge and ex-Strictly professional Anton Du Beke said it was the ‘greatest thing I’ve ever seen on this show.’The dance was an obvious choice for Rose and Giovanni to perform on the Strictly Come Dancing tour, an annual whistle stop tour round the country after the series finishes in late December.Unfortunately, some members of the crowd were intent on ruining the show as the lights dimmed and the music stopped. One audience member wrote: “Was a great show tonight, ashamed someone in the audience shouted out during the silent part of the dance."One fan said: “I have a feeling they’ll have a better chance in London,” while another simply left: "Morons!"“Agree, there were a couple of them who couldn't contain their excitement," added another eyewitness."Well deserved, you are such a beautiful team.

Liverpool star Jordan Henderson left fuming after shirt given to kid stolen by fan
It was a near perfect Sunday for Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson as his side beat Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park, but the skipper was fuming at the final whistle. After Manchester City dropped points away to Southampton, Liverpool knew that victory would shorten the gap between them and the Premier League leaders, and goals from Virgil van Dijk, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho secured three vital points. The travelling away support were delighted as they saw their side win again even without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and Henderson showed his appreciation by giving his shirt away at the end of the match. But unfortunately for Henderson, it didn't reach the intended recipient.Footage has emerged of Henderson going over to the away support to hand his match-worn shirt to a young Red, only for it to be snatched by another fan.Obviously an item like that is one of a kind, and certainly a sentimental shirt to receive, but unfortunately for the young supporter what was meant to be his gift was taken by another fan who seized the opportunity. It doesn't appear at thought that shirt was handed over to the intended supporter, but the footage does show Henderson gesturing that he will go and grab another shirt instead, and gift it to the fan.Although it may not be the match-worn shirt, it's still a touching gesture from Henderson, which makes up for the rather unsporting act from the other Liverpool supporter.Liverpool are now nine points behind City with a game in hand, and the Premier League title race may not be over just yet, as Jurgen Klopp's side are planning an almighty challenge. It will take some collapse from City though, who has won their previous 12 Premier League games until drawing 1-1 against Southampton.
