Canary Islands won't welcome Brit tourists until October as summer holidays cancelled

The Canary Islands are hoping to welcome back Brit tourism from October, regional government chiefs have confirmed. Hotels are likely to reopen in July or August for Spanish holidaymakers before accepting foreign tourists in autumn.

The islands were the first to confirm positive cases of Covid-19 in Spain, after four-star H10 Costa Adeje Palace said an Italian guest had tested positive.

Spain as a whole has since suffered more than 20,000 fatalities and confirmed 200,210 positive coronavirus cases. President Ángel Víctor Torres said the islands wants to be the "first out of confinement" as it was the first area in lockdown in the country.
