Callum McGregor had his work cut out taking the armband over from one the great Celtic captains. But at least he wasn’t following the greatest of them all.Sir Kenny Dalglish has been blown away by the performances on and off the pitch of the current Hoops skipper.

It was no mean feat inheriting the role on the back of a trophy laden era led by Scott Brown. Dalglish knows the script as he got the role after legendary leader Billy McNeill hung up the boots but he’s convinced McGregor has shown he’s made for the job.The current captain has steered Celts to three trophies out of the last four and could end up with the clean sweep this season.

And Dalglish reckons you could argue McGregor has had a tougher task as his predecessor had a chunk of time in charge when rivals Rangers were out of the picture.

Sir Kenny said: “Scott Brown did a great job as well but he had a few seasons when Rangers were in the third and second divisions and working their way back so I think the opposition has been tougher since Callum took over.“But the both of them have done a fantastic job.
