Scotland coach John Carver reckons Celtic hero Callum McGregor is a classy controller.And Steve Clarke’s assistant says the dominant Parkhead skipper has a huge influence on his national team as he prepares to hit a major career landmark.
McGregor is set to win his 50th cap in tomorrow’s clash with Cyprus as Clarke and his team look to get their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign off to the best possible star.The 29-year-old has been a stalwart for Clarke having been an ever-present in his squads since he took the reins in May 2019.
And his No.2 Carver said: “He is what I would call a coach on the pitch. He is a controller, he controls the games and dominates the games.
He does the same for Celtic.” Meanwhile Carver also admits he’d relish a full-time Scotland post. Steve Clarke’s assistant is currently on a part-time arrangement and when asked if he'd like to make it permanent, he said: "In an ideal world, yes for sure.
