British holidaymaker 'raped in front of horrified boyfriend during beach massage'

holidaymaker has been allegedly raped in front of her shocked boyfriend while in the Indian city of Goa.The alleged attacker gave the woman a massage before committing the heinous assault.It is said to have taken place near the popular tourist spot of Arambol Beach in Southern India, police confirmed.A 32-year-old local was was arrested yesterday.It is claimed that the man offered her a massage while she was lying by Sweet Water Lake, near the beach, with her partner, but no details have been shared about what happened after that.The incident actually took place on June 2, the complaint was only lodged with Pernem Police yesterday after the British Embassy in India spoke to those involved.The man arrested had previously worked in a school library, local police Inspector Vikram Naik said.He added: "We have contacted the police station concerned to get his past records."Currently, he is not working as a librarian."According to the New Indian Express, the accused and the victim were sent for a medical examination at a local hospital in Mapusa, near where the couple were staying.He is due to appear in court on Monday, June 13.No details about the British couple have been released to the public.An FCDO Spokesperson said: "We are providing consular support to a British National in Goa”.According to a BBC report from 2015, around 200,000 British tourists visit Goa every year due to its winter sun and "cheap beer".This number rose to 300,000 in 2019, pre-pandemic, but dropped dramatically to just around 50,000 in 2020 due to pandemic-related travel restrictions in both countries.Currently, Goa is one of the most safest Covid places to visit, with a current seven-day average of 39 live cases, with 30 new ones reported yesterday.
