dailystar.co.ukkilled in a targeted shooting in front of his daughter in Mexico.Chris Cleave, originally from Cornwall, was killed as he was driving through the popular Playa del Carmen in Cancun.The 54-year-old real estate agent was in traffic when gunmen opened fire on the car, which also contained his daughter.Mr Cleave is thought to have relocated to Mexico more than a decade ago with his family.
He was driving with his daughter through Playa del Carmen at around 9.30am on Saturday (March 12) when two men on a motorcycle ambushed him while the vehicle was stuck in traffic, reports CornwallLive.
The gunmen opened fire through the driver's side window of the vehicle Mr Cleave was travelling in as they quickly fled the scene.Mr Cleave has been described by friends as a "prominent expat property owner and salesman".He was pronounced dead at the scene and his daughter, 14, who was not hit, was taken to hospital for treatment for shock and minor injuries.According to reports, the two men have since been arrested by police as they continue their investigation.The area of Quintana Roo, which includes the resort of Cancun, has seen an increase in violence but police believe the attack was targeted.Local reports state that a man thought to be Mr Cleave was threatened earlier this month along with two other men in a so-called narcomanta, a message left by a local drug cartel.A police source told the Mail: "This was not a random shooting but a targeted attack.
He was chosen to be murdered."Two men, one aged 18 and named by police only as Lenin N, and the other aged 30 and named as Jose N, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.Following news of his murder, dozens of friends have paid tribute to Mr Cleave online.Wayne Thomas said: "RIP Chris.
