Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called to reports of a 'firearms discharge' on Whiteway Street in Harpurhey at around 5.30pm.
A spokesperson said the 'swift response' of officers led to a male being arrested and a firearm recoverd. There are no reports of any injuries, police added.
Pictures shared with the M.E.N showed armed officers surrounding a vehicle at the corner of Moss Brook Road and Church Lane.
