Boris Johnson has warned of "hard choices" as cases of the Indian Covid variant soar - with June's easing of lockdown laws now at risk.
The Prime Minister said that evidence shows the mutant strain is more transmissible, raising fears it can cause "serious disruption" to his roadmap.
Addressing the nation in a televised address from Downing Street, he said: "If the variant is significantly more transmissible we'll have to face some hard choices." The PM said there is "no evidence" that the Indian variation can evade vaccines - and assured the public that plans to ease restrictions will proceed on Monday.
