If the roadmap goes ahead as planned, June 21 would see all legal limits on social contact lifted, and venues such as nightclubs finally able to reopen after more than a year.

But rising cases of a new strain of coronavirus first identified in India, particularly in Bolton and Blackburn with Darwen in the north west, have led to fears that the final stage of easing could be delayed in England - or in some parts of it.
