A no-deal Brexit is "very likely" in two weeks time unless there are substantial changes in the trade talks, Boris Johnson has warned.
In a downbeat assessment, the Prime Minister told European Commission boss Ursula von der Leyen that negotiations were in a "serious situation" in a phone call on Thursday night.
Ms von der Leyen said bridging the outstanding issues will be "very challenging" but she was more optimistic than the PM, saying that "substantial progress had been made towards securing a vital trade pact.
Crunch talks between the UK and EU will continue on Friday, with only a fortnight to go until the end of the transition period.
