MP Sir David Amess has died after being stabbed at a meeting in his Essex constituency. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has described him as one of the "kindest, nicest, most gentle people in politics." The 69-year-old, who has been an MP since 1983, was fatally injured at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea near Southend at midday on Friday. Paying tribute to Sir David, the Prime Minister said he had been killed after “almost 40 years of continuous service to the people of Essex and the whole of the United Kingdom”.
