He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

In his Easter message, the Prime Minister acknowledged it had been a 'very tough year', but said the holiday had brought fresh optimism, the Mirror reports. "This has been a very tough 12 months," he said. "But, as ever, the arrival of Easter brings with it new hope. "And this year more than ever, it brings the promise of brighter days ahead for us all." He has faced criticism previously for his overly optimistic promises about the UK's recovery from coronavirus.
