Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

The Prime Minister will address the nation after government ministers admitted 557 cases of the South Africa variant and 103 of the India variant have been found in the UK to date.Both variants have seen some "community transmission" - meaning they did not have obvious links to international travel.
Travel from India will finally be banned from 4am on Friday as cases surge on the subcontinent, with the capital New Delhi in lockdown.
The huge country will become the 40th on the travel 'red list', from which only UK residents can travel but most quarantine in a £1,750 hotel.
