Research has found that women who have a midwife from a similar background to their own will usually have a better experience in hospital and a safer birth.
Despite this, a low number of student midwives are from Black and Asian heritage. To combat this, The University of Manchester, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Loreto High School and Royal College of Midwives have collaborated on a book project sharing the stories of midwives who started their careers
