Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

'Beyond bonkers' that Harry and Meghan were 'uninvited' from Palace reception, says pal

Harry and Meghan were "uninvited" from the Palace state reception last night, says a friend of the Sussexes. The decision to "uninvite" the pair was due to the event being for working royals only, it is understood.It is believed the couple received an invitation to the event at Buckingham Palace, hosted by the King and Queen Consort and held for 1,000 foreign leaders and royals ahead of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral today. READ MORE: Princess Charlotte 'lets George take lead' as kids 'not scared of Queen funeral roles' A friend of the Sussexes told The Sunday Times that it would've been 'bonkers' for them not to be there."Everyone is coming in from around the world to pay their respects to the Queen," the friend added.The Daily Telegraph, meanwhile, says the exclusion is down to issues with communication between the couple and the Royal Family.It comes after confusion over Harry's right to wear a military uniform.He was initially not expected to wear it during the mourning period due to him no longer being a working royal.To stay up to date with all the latest news, make sure you sign up to one of our newsletters here .But his father, King Charles III, gave him permission to wear the uniform at the vigil by the Queen's coffin.However, the prince was said to be "devastated" at apparently having to remove the 'ER' symbol from his military uniform - even though Prince William was allowed to keep his, it is claimed.Reports suggest Harry nearly decided to wear the morning suit anyway to avoid "humiliation".However, it does not appear to be an intentional snub - the initials are traditionally only worn by those 'in service' of the monarch.The source said today that the uniform issues and the state reception snub could make.
