Credit benefit that could boost some state pensions over the summer holidays

Grandparents helping to look after their grandchildren over the summer holidays could get a significant boost to their pension credit.

Specified adult childcare credits (SACCs) were introduced in 2011 to support people's future state pension who help care for a family member's children.

National Insurance credit a parent or carer who receives Child Benefit gets can be transferred weekly in the form of Class 3 National Insurance credit for each week or portion of the week that care is provided for the child.

According to figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), more than 12 million people in the UK claim state pension.
