Beachgoers formed an incredible human chain to rescue a struggling man who had been swept out to sea. Lulworth coastguard said the swimmer got into trouble in choppy seas at Durdle Door, Dorset, on Thursday afternoon.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, apparently tried to swim back to the shore but was stopped by 20mph winds and enormous waves that rose well over his head.
Another man who ran into the sea to try and help him also got into difficulty before dozens of people on the beach came to the rescue.
More than 20 people linked arms to enter the sea and successfully brought the two men back to shore. They withstood being buffeted by the waves and an eye-witness said she feared for multiple casualties, but miraculously everyone emerged
