Barcelona fans boycott La Liga match after 30,000 Frankfurt supporters flooded Nou Camp
dailystar.co.ukBarcelona fans have boycotted their La Liga clash against Cadiz on Monday night in light of the ‘social humiliation’ they endured during their Europa League exit to Eintracht Frankfurt.Xavi’s side were sent crashing out of the competition after the Bundesliga giants stunned them with a magnificent 3-2 victory at the home of the Catalans.
However, the Blaugrana fans endured the biggest shock of the evening as 30,000 Frankfurt supporters, many in seats usually taken by home supporters, turned up at the Nou Camp.Any shred of a home advantage was rendered meaningless by the spectacular influx of fans from the German giants.
And the furious Barcelona supporters emphatically responded with a hugely significant boycott. “The events that took place on Thursday mean that we are forced to take action…” a statement released via Gerard Romero said. “And that is precisely why we will not be attending the next FC Barcelona – Cadiz match.“We are convinced that as members and fans of FC Barcelona, we can never allow a remotely similar situation again.
We ask the parties involved to remember that not everything in life is a few million, especially if we talk about a club whose motto is ‘more than a club’.”Xavi was also visibly furious by the stunningly large presence of Frankfurt fans in the stadium.
