J. Kim Murphy Party’s over. Apple TV+ has pulled the plug on its murder mystery comedy series “The Afterparty” after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.

UPDATED: There will be no third season for Apple TV+s The Afterparty. The streamer has canceled the murder mystery comedy series after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed. The decision comes a month after Season 2 ended its run.

On the second season of the acclaimed TV show from executive producers Chris Miller, Phil Lord and Anthony King, Jack Whitehall plays the smug entrepreneur, Sebastian Drapewood, who gets caught up in the mystery surrounding the murder of Edgar Minnows (Zach Woods), after serving as the groom's best man before his untimely death.Not long after finding Edgar's body, Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) is called in to help Aniq (Sam Richardson) and Zoë (Zoë Chao) with solving the whodunnit before the authorities arrive. Sebastian's interrogation comes halfway through the season, following interviews with and revelations from the bride, Grace (Poppy Liu), Edgar's adopted sister, Hannah (Anna Konkle), and family friend, Travis (Paul Walter Hauser), with each of their stories told through specific genres, or what Miller calls, «mind films.» Zach Wood, John Cho, Zoe Chao, Paul Walter Hauser, Ken Jeong, Poppy Liu and Vivian Wu in 'The Afterparty' season 2.While recounting his version of events — which plays out like an type of heist or crime film during his interrogation — a number of things about Sebastian are revealed, including the fact he's the person seen streaking the night of the wedding by Vivian (Vivian Wu), Feng (Ken Jeong) and others.

BreAnna Bell Nancy and Celia may be back in business. Elizabeth Perkins, who starred as Celia Hodes on the Showtime series “Weeds” from 2005-2009, tells Variety she’d gladly step back into the role now that a revival of the show is reportedly in the works. “It’s just that— it’s talking,” Perkins said when asked about talk of a reboot. “I’d be on board. I loved working with Mary-Louise Parker. I love those two characters together, Nancy and Celia!” Deadline reported in May that a “Weeds” reboot was in development at Showtime with lead star Parker attached to star and executive produce. (Variety first exclusively reported the reboot was in the works at Starz in 2019). Lionsgate, the studio behind the production, declined to comment at the time.

After showcasing a refreshing, genre-blending format in Season 1, “The Afterparty” is back for a second season and — you guessed it — someone dies, again. The first season was highly acclaimed, with standout characters like Haddish’s Detective Danner and Richardson’s Aniq quickly catching audiences’ attention.  Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, June 12, with two brand new episodes, followed by one weekly episode every Wednesday through Sept. 6.
