Ayrshire's hospitals increase number of available Covid-19 beds as admission continue to rise

NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased its bed capacity for coronavirus patients as health chiefs continue to grapple with an autumn surge in admissions.The number of beds designated for people requiring hospital treatment after falling ill with Covid has shot up to 110 from 93 last Monday.Over the course of the past seven days, hospital admissions have risen from 83 to 92 – prompting health chiefs to increase their capacity.NHS Ayrshire & Arran say the numbers are kept under review and that the situation is fluid.Joanne Edwards, director of acute services said: “As of Monday, September 20, 2021, NHS Ayrshire & Arran currently has 110 designated Covid-19 beds.“We are able to use our capacity flexibly between urgent, emergency cases, elective.
