Award-winning Sopranos and Damn Yankees actress Rae Allen dies after glittering career

The Tony-Award winning actress was best known for her roles in The Sopranos, All In the Family and Damn Yankees and passed away peacefully in her sleep early on Wednesday (April 7) morning.Rae was described by many who knew her as “a force of nature” and earned her first Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress as Gloria in Damn Yankees in 1955.

Born Rae Julia Theresa Abruzzo in New York in 1926, the actress had a very successful acting career which spanned several decades.Her notorious acting credentials include playing Mrs Sokol on Seinfeld, followed by Aunt Quintina Blundetto in The Sopranos.She was huge on TV shows in the 60s, featuring on popular series such as The Untouchables, Car 54, Where Are You?

and The Patty Duke Show.The American star began her career in Broadway theatre productions following her graduation from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1947.She was later nominated for another Tony for her part in Traveler Without Luggage in 1967, however, sadly missed out on a gold dong.

Rae did later win the award in 1971 for her role in And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little.The legend had a number of guest appearances on a number of shows throughout the years, including: The Greatest American Hero, Lou Grant and Hill Street Blues.Her acting resume, also saw her land roles on a number of huge series including Grey's Anatomy and NYPD Blue.
