Horrific photos reveal the danger posed by Asian giant hornets as their smaller but no less deadly relatives arrive in the UK.
After last being discovered in Dorset in October, a queen was recently found at a home in Guernsey, setting off alarm bells that there could be more of them in Great Britain.
Asian hornets (vespa velutina) are often confused with the similarly named Asian giant hornets (vespa mandarinia), which are the world's largest hornets and have plagued Eastern Asia.
As big as a human thumb, v mandarinia are yellow and black with 6mm-long stingers packed with poison venomous enough to dissolve human tissue.
