Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

The strict nationwide lockdown, announced by the Prime Minister during a press conference at Downing Street on October 31, is expected to last until early December and replaces the current regional three tier restriction system which has been in place since October 14.
In a statement to the Commons, Boris Johnson said there was "no alternative" to the latest nationwide lockdown. Once the second national lockdown eases on December 2, the country will then adopt an exit strategy, and will continue to follow the restrictions from the existing three tier system, depending on the severity of infection rates in local areas.
