England's lockdown restrictions have been confirmed by MPs in a vote in the House of Commons. The latest restrictions were approved by MPs after a heated debate.
MPs voted 291 for to 78 against. But due to Labour abstaining a majority of MPs did not approve the measures and a large number of Tory MPs rejected the measures.
They were joined by DUP MPs and a number of Labour rebels who broke the whip to vote down the measures. Early indicators suggested that 56 Tory MPs voted against the PM's tiers plans, making it the largest rebellion Mr Johnson has faced.
The new arrangements will come into force on Wednesday, putting 99% of England in the toughest Tier 2 and Tier 3 restrictions.
