The UK has been invaded by a non-native species of hornets, known as Asian hornets. The hornet is an effective predator of insects, and has caused significant losses to honey bee colonies.
In April 2020, a new report suggested that the insects could cost the economy millions of pounds. That is why the Government is keen on stopping the insect establishing itself in the UK, which is why you should report it is you see it.
It also has the ability to kill in one sting, and can be aggressive if its nest is disturbed. It’s also important to remember that while its sting is no more painful than an average hornet, it can be deadly to those who are allergic to its venom.
