I’m not sure I buy this, given how many she’s styled. When pushed she comes up with Cate Blanchett, ‘because she dresses with intelligence’; the 101-year-old supermodel Iris Apfel, ‘because she’s having such a good time’; and the veteran fashion editor Grace Coddington, in her pre-head-to-toe-black years of harem pants and turbans.
Rule-breakers all three.Chambers also breaks rules, although unconventional thinking comes so easily to her that she doesn’t realise she’s doing it.As a small child she was prancing around in a red patent miniskirt her mother made for her.
So it’s not that surprising that she’s known for bold, idiosyncratic choices. That said, her approach has lessons for everyone.
