Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum says team-mate Virgil van Dijk is ‘going through hell’ in his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Van Dijk's season was all but ended last month after being on the receiving end of a poor challenge from Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside derby.The Dutchman had surgery two weeks ago and faces a race against time to be fit enough to represent his country at the European Championships next summer.An ACL injury is one of the hardest injuries for a footballer to recover from and there is a chance Van Dijk may not be the same all-conquering defender he was.But Wijnaldum has some words of encouragement for Van Dijk and revealed they are in regular contact."Virgil will return with God's will," Wijnaldum.
