Liverpool are in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, with Joe Gomez joining Virgil van Dijk as a long-term absentee at the back after suffering a knee injury on international duty.
Van Dijk has had surgery on an ACL injury suffered in the Merseyside derby clash with Everton in October and Gomez has also had surgery on his injury, with both players set to miss a significant chunk of the season.
Joel Matip has had his own fitness woes, while stand-in centre-back Fabinho is recovering from a hamstring problem.
