Valencia's financial crisis has reached a new low after the club reportedly offered to pay player wages with IOU notes. The Spanish club have found themselves in economic difficulty following the coronavirus pandemic and are desperately trying to balance the books.
Former club captain Dani Parejo and fellow midfielder Francis Coquelin have already been allowed to leave in a cut-price deal to La Liga rivals Villarreal.
Both players were among the biggest earners at the Mestalla and were let go purely for financial reasons. But things have got worse since as bank transfers to the remaining players failed to go through, leading Valencia to offer to pay the wages back at a later date.
