Messi believes he can leave for free due to a clause in his contract but Barcelona are adamant that it expired before June 1, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic meaning the season did not end until August when they were eliminated from the Champions League.
The situation may need to be settled in court and, if Messi cannot leave for free then Spanish outlet Sport are reporting that City could offer Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Eric Garcia and £90m for the Argentinian superstar.
