When the UK was part of the European Union, Britain enjoyed participation in the EU pet passport scheme. Travellers were able to take their dog, cat or ferret from the UK to the EU and back again freely with no restrictions so long as they met a small number of conditions.
These conditions included making sure the animal had a valid passport and could be proven to be microchipped and meant pets could travel without quarantine.
