Temperatures could peak at 16C over the weekend - well above the average highs for November, amid a barrage of heavy rain and 50mph gale force winds.
Daytime temperatures this time of year often dip as low as 4C in parts of the UK - and rarely ever climb above 10C. But the strange Indian summer, which started last weekend with balmy 18C heat and bright sunshine, is set to continue in the coming days.
However, the tranquility felt on Thursday, with light breezes and mild warmth, is unlikely to be repeated and any surges in temperature will come amongst rampaging winds and torrential downpours.
