The first snow of the season is set to strike in Britain today, with up to 10cm to fall in the coming days. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice across Scotland from 6pm this evening until midday on Thursday, with the western Highlands and Lanarkshire expected to bear the brunt.
The warning states: "Snow showers and icy stretches likely to bring some travel disruption." But lower levels throughout the UK will be susceptible as the week goes on, and a freezing cold snap sees temperatures drop to -2C by Friday morning.
Added to that sleet and heavy wintry showers, as well as winds reaching 50mph, all point to a miserable few days to come, with further snow expected next week.
