Critics used the short videos to point out instances of Banks exhibiting problematic behavior, such as admonishing one contestant to close her gap and allowing another to do blackface. Over the weekend, the veteran model and show host spoke out about the videos.

Tyra Banks has spoken out in response to a viral video of a number of insensitive moments that featured on her reality show America’s Next Top Model.

Tyra Banks admits that some moments from her time as host of were problematic.Earlier this week, and was caught in a social media firestorm after a video from Cycle 6 of the popular modeling competition on Twitter. In said clip, Banks can be seen pressuring contestant Danielle Evans—who went on to win that year's title—to get the gap in her teeth closed via dental surgery.

After a series of clips from long-ago America’s Next Top Model cycles went viral, some viewers began to pile on host and lead judge Tyra Banks for what they saw as cruelty towards contestants and insensitive challenges. The show debuted in 2003, and the way models are treated and viewed has come a long way since then. So has what is considered beautiful. On May 8, Tyra responded to the criticism, but didn’t go so far as to apologize.
