Arsenal were dealt a second defeat in the space of a week as they were undone by Aston Villa. Ollie Watkins scored within the opening two minutes after a mix-up in the Gunners defence.
Cedric Soares sold a pass short to Gabriel which allowed Bertrand Traore to pounce and set up his team-mate. The visitors couldn't recover from the early setback with Alexandre Lacazette unable to produce in the final third.
He led the Arsenal line although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang did return to the fold as a second-half substitute. Martin Odegaard and Willian were also called upon as Mikel Arteta sought an equaliser at Villa Park.
