Trick-or-treating looks set to be banned for 12million people in England this Halloween because it constitutes "household mixing", Downing Street confirmed today.
A No10 spokesman said anyone in a "local lockdown" area must obey rules against mixing with people from other households - even when going door-to-door for sweets.
Even in other parts of England the prospects look bleak, because children still can't gather in groups bigger than six - including, it seems, the people who answer the door.
While children under 18 can't be fined £200 for breaking the rules, their parents can - and are legally responsible for ensuring they stick to the rules.
