Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.
In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy launched a passionate defence of Casemiro after his brace on Wednesday night.
Van Nistelrooy was placed in interim charge of United following Erik ten Hag's departure on Monday and oversaw an emphatic victory over Leicester in his first game at the helm.
Casemiro opened the scoring with a world-class strike in the 15th minute, finding the top right corner with a thunderous effort from 25 yards, and United had a 4-2 lead at the interval thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and another from Casemiro.
Fernandes made it 5-2 in the second half, scoring the goal that ended the game as a contest, and United made it through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with minimal fuss.
