The new head coach will first oversee his final Sporting CP match on Sunday evening. United, themselves, face Leicester City earlier on Sunday.
This will be Van Nistelrooy's last in charge as caretaker manager at Old Trafford. What comes next for the Dutchman, though, is uncertain.
Amorim is expected to bring a handful of staff to Manchester with him, as is standard. It is not yet clear if there will be room for Van Nistelrooy, who joined Erik ten Hag's backroom staff as assistant over the summer.
