Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United at the end of his four-game spell as caretaker manager, with Ruben Amorim opting not to keep the club's former striker on his backroom team.
Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford in the summer as one of Erik ten Hag's assistants and was installed as interim boss two weeks ago, when Ten Hag was sacked after a 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
The 48-year-old guided the team to three wins and a draw during his short spell in charge, reconnecting with supporters and rebuilding confidence in the squad before Amorim's arrival.
He had stressed a desire to remain at the club under Amorim, but was accepting of the possibility that the new appointment might rejig the coaching staff.
