Richard Hammond is back tinkering with classic cars in his popular discovery+ series. This time, as the workshop hits a rough patch at the beginning of the fourth season, Richard confesses: "I'm a terrible manager. That's why I've had to get a manager in." The 54 year old adds: "I need somebody to manage this day-to-day so I'm trying people out in that first episode to plug the hole so it stops leaking money." In the gripping premiere, fans watch as Richard searches for the perfect candidate to take over The Smallest Cog following the departure of key restorer Andrew Greenhouse.

Reflecting on the obstacles he faced, Richard concedes: "I got carried away and grew the business," adding, "I think Andrew grew frustrated with my lack of ability to manage it as a workshop so he stepped away." A pivotal moment for the series comes when a Rolls Royce with a rich history is brought into the shop, having shuttled historical figures such as Winston Churchill and US President Dwight D Eisenhower during World War II.

Richard shows his appreciation for the opportunity by saying: "It was very brave for Brigadier Mike Caldecott to choose us," acknowledging the significance of the vehicle and the trust placed in his team. " “I think Brigadier Mike was under some pressure from the military top brass, obviously somebody must have thought, ‘Why have you given this priceless historical artefact to that little muppet from the telly?’” Richard Hammond has been chatting about balancing his busy life, and it turns out he's even swapped tips with fellow TV star and car enthusiast Jeremy Clarkson, who runs Diddly Squat farm.
