Top Ayrshire doctor lifts lid on coronavirus capacity as admissions continue to rise

Ayrshire’s hospitals as the number of patients being treated for the virus hits record-breaking highs in the region.Between Ayr and Crosshouse, Kilmarnock, the coronavirus bed capacity was set at 223 including ICU beds for critically-ill coronavirus patients — 28 per cent of the total hospital beds available.On Tuesday, January 19 at 8am, the health board were dealing with 197 Covid patients of which 14 were in ICU in both hospitals.A further 35 patients were in community hospitals across Ayrshire for intermediate for those not fit to be fully discharged.Daily data from the Scottish Government shows the total number of patients in hospital in the health board area was 237 yesterday, with the number in ICU rising to 16.NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
