Cops witnessed part of the vicious assault and ran over to detain McKinlay, a third-year engineering student at the city’s Heriot-Watt University.
McKinlay, 20, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday and admitted a charge of assaulting Aaron Tulloch to his injury.
