A street in Wigan has blown away the competition in its bid to be named 'Britain's friendliest'. Pemberton Road, in Winstanley, won a public vote after more than 5,000 people chose it from a shortlist of ten places around the country.
It took roughly a third of the 16,600 votes cast, beating out second place Cedar Avenue in Twickenham and third place Eden Crescent in Leeds.
The competition was run by not-for-profit group In Good Company which was looking to find and highlight places in Britain showing examples of great community spirit during the coronavirus lockdown.
