Coronation Street and Emmerdale could be forced off air for the first time due to the coronavirus outbreak. ITV put an immediate stop to production on both of its flagship soaps this week prior to the latest government guidance.

They said at the time that 'the health and well-being of the production teams, actors, crew and their families is of paramount importance to us and we now feel that the time has come to stop filming.' The network then announced a change to the transmission patterns to make sure both programmes could continue to air for as long as possible.

Coronation Street is being reduced to single episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from Monday March 30. While Emmerdale will still be screened Monday to Friday at 7pm, but
