Long forgotten are plans of having the extended family round for tea and crumpets and you can most certainly bet on the fact that she won’t get a chance to hug her beloved great-grandchildren.
Instead, the royal will be marking her birthday in isolation, her mature age putting her firmly in the vulnerable category in the midst of the global health crisis.
This won’t be the first time the Queen has had to cancel a birthday party, mind, a pretty well-known historical figure got in the way of her celebrating in years gone by.
