Dior and Chopard experimented with multi-hued, gem-set dials many years ago, while high-end manufactures from Omega to Richard Mille have offered limited editions of bright and beautiful timepieces.But it was perhaps not until 2018, when Rolex unveiled its latest gem-set Daytona Cosmograph, that the demand for rainbows hit fever pitch.The model was first produced in very small numbers in white and yellow gold back in 2012, but it was the black-dialled, Everose (Rolex’s proprietary pink-gold alloy) version of two years ago that cemented the cult status of the ‘Rainbow Daytona’.Immediately sold out, the original retail price of £75,000 can now be tripled on the pre-owned market – if, that is, you can find one at all.Luckily, Rolex is not.
