New 20mph speed limits are planned on some of Salford’s roads. A total of 24 roads in the Swinton Park area are part of changes to improve road safety.
The first phase of new speed limits is set to be approved by Salford council at a meeting on February 14, covering residential neighbourhoods including on Leigh Avenue and Beechfield Road.
The second area will cover May Road and the Westlands area, with the third and fourth zones adding Osborne Drive (Swinton Park ward), Birch Drive (Pendlebury and Clifton ward), and the surrounding streets.
Plans for new speed limits in Salford have come after calls from residents for safer roads. Coun Mike McCusker, Salford council's transport lead, said the change is part of a wider goal to end traffic deaths on the city’s roads.
