Mancs will be able to get an up-close-and-personal look at the town hall’s iconic clock next week, as it will be featured on the BBC.
The grade-I listed Albert Square icon is currently being renovated by the council to the tune of £430m, around £76m over budget, with its clock mechanism and faces receiving special attention.
Expert horologists from Cumbria Clocks are restoring the Gillet and Bland clock, described as the 'Rolls Royce' of Victorian clocks.
The ‘complete service’ should mean the clock keeps to time for another 150 years. Cumbria Clocks are also restoring the four ‘dials’ of the clockface, one of which was cracked by a World War II bomb explosion.
