For over 60 years, the carpet for the Oscars has been red. However, for 2023, it’s not. It’s been revealed that when celebrities and their guests start to arrive for the 2023 Oscars, they’ll be welcomed by a champagne colored carpet instead. Keep reading to find out why the color of the carpet was changed… Earlier this week, the official carpet roll-out happened, with host Jimmy Kimmel in attendance, and the color reveal shocked many who were there for it.
But just why was the color changed? According to People, it’s simply just The Academy trying out something new. “People have been asking, ‘Is there going to be any trouble this year?
Is there going to be any violence this year?’ And we certainly hope not,” Jimmy shared during a clip from the roll-out by the AP. “But if there is, I think the decision to go with a champagne carpet rather than a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be shed.” The AP also added that Vogue contributor Lisa Love and Met Gala creative director Raúl Àvila served as creative consultants for the step and repeat, and The Academy did make the decision to cover the carpet entirely with a canopy just in case of inclement weather. Lisa said that the carpet might not remain champagne-colored for future shows, though. “Somebody’s always got a way to find something wrong with something,” she added about those who are already upset with the change. “This is just a lightness and hopefully people like it.
It doesn’t mean that it’s always going to be a champagne-colored carpet.” The 2023 Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 12, and air on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at 8 p.m.
